Intel remains the dominate chip maker and even though sales and earnings have begun to slump, we think there is compelling value in Intel. After all, the company provides the brains for 80 percent of the world’s computers, and is positioned to benefit greatly as the economy turns around. The shares of IBM have been knocked down in line with the S&P 500 over the course of this brutal market year. Yet, Ockham Research sees increasing appeal in the shares of “Big Blue”. Selling at a discount to its historic price-to-sales and price-to-cash flow metrics, IBM, with its broad geographical diversification and its blue chip image, represents the kind of quality stock that should attract nervous investors in a rough market.

AMD has played second fiddle to Intel in the processesing space for its entire history. However, there are signs now that AMD is finding a foothold and is starting to drive more of the consumer driven market. Its valuation looks attractive, so if AMD can sustain its gains in market share the stock will certainly rise from its 16 year low.
