Excelon is offering $6.2 billion in a stock deal to buy NRG Energy, the second biggest energy producer in Texas. The companies combined would very likely aggressively pursue nuclear energy together as both company’s have expressed strong interest in that field. It seems like a good deal from our analysis, will the NRG shareholder’s agree?

Altria Group has offered a total package of $11.6 billion to acquire UST Inc. the largest smokeless tobacco maker. Even though MO will pay top dollar for UST, it will most definately help them diversify their buisness and strengthen the company in the long run.

Coke has made a few strategic moves to diversify its soft drink empire, and this deal comes on the heals of a massive marketing effort in China for the Beijing games. We think this deal makes a lot of sense, even if Coke did put up a generous offer and the long term growth for Coke still looks appealing.

The long awaited decision by the FCC is expected to be delivered very soon, and not a moment to soon for the companies involved. In contrast to those that believe the deal will hurt competition in the industry, it will actually create a stronger and more viable option for many consumers in a highly competitive industry.

Republic Services is the subject of proposed deal by Waste Management. The deal is a response to RSG’s offer for the second biggest trash hauler Allied Waste Industries late last month. Now, the ball is in RSG’s court…who will they decide to pursue?

BUD and InBev seem to be closer than ever to coming to an agreement on terms of the deal. We would be stunned if the deal falls through at this point because the money is right and its the best deal BUD could expect.
