On the same day as the government stimulus plan passes through the Senate, Intel reveals a stimulus plan of their own. Intel will be upgraded its manufacturing facilities in the west to take the lead in the new era of microprocessor manufacturing.

Intel remains the dominate chip maker and even though sales and earnings have begun to slump, we think there is compelling value in Intel. After all, the company provides the brains for 80 percent of the world’s computers, and is positioned to benefit greatly as the economy turns around. It is not a bad idea to invest in an industry leader that is trading at 12 year lows because even if it gets worse before it gets better, you know that Intel will still be around when things do improve.

Hewlett Packard has offered earnings for the fourth quarter and guidance for the next fiscal year a week before they are scheduled to officially release earnings. The results are impressive and HP management should be commended for their handling of this difficult operating environment and the seamless integration of the EDS acquisition.

AMD has played second fiddle to Intel in the processesing space for its entire history. However, there are signs now that AMD is finding a foothold and is starting to drive more of the consumer driven market. Its valuation looks attractive, so if AMD can sustain its gains in market share the stock will certainly rise from its 16 year low.
