“… >> how much of your thesis hinges upon oil breaking out of this incredibly stubborn range, high 40s, low 50s? >> it doesn’t really have to do that because the strong balance sheet that CHEVRON has really helps position it well for the future, and I think that it’s going to give it some opportunity to acquire either assets from distressed companies …” …more details…

“… Do the earnings do anything to massage your view? >> the earnings numbers look they were about in line with what I expected. >> talk to me about the differences between chevron and EXXON, if any, and how does the company play into the overall theme of companies looking more and more to the debt market to finance capital and exploration? >> the biggest difference I see between EXXON and chevron is that at least over the next couple of years, chevron’s slate of products is going to grow production more than EXXON. That’s what would contribute to that growth rate. >> we’re looking at the one year chart versus EXXON. Why the slight underperformance of cvx? >> compared to EXXON, EXXON has — although chevron’s balance sheet is strong, EXXON’s even stronger. EXXON is kind of thought of that safe place to be in the sector because of its size, because of the amount it carries and things some investors just default to for a place to park some money in the energy sector. …” …more details…
