TTM Revenue

For a long time, value investors have used the current share price relative to sales per share levels as an important valuation tool. We utilize a historical weighted average methodology that treats recent years more importantly in the calculation. When looking at TTM through this framework, we can see that our weighted average historical high and low Price to Sales per share ratios over the last 8 years are 0.95x and 0.45x respectively.

Utilizing this range we can see that TTM’s current Price to Sales per share ratio of 0.46x is well below its normal historic Price to Sales levels. At a price of $14.28, TTM is 34% below where we would expect to see it. Clearly, this stock looks undervalued compared to historical levels, at least on a Price to Sales basis. This will positively affect our analysis because it is rare to find a stock this far below historical norms, and we would expect some price appreciation to bring this metric back towards a more normal range.

TTM Cash Earnings

When reviewing a company and their prospects for success, it is necessary to analyze their ability to generate positive Cash Earnings. This is a vital component to our analysis, because as a long term investment research firm, there are few factors more closely tied to the valuation of a company as Cash Earnings. In the case of TTM, it appears that either the current estimate for Cash Earnings is negative or TTM is not likely to generate positive Cash Earnings based upon their prior performance in the last several quarters. Remember that Cash Earnings is not the only way to value a company's potential, but in our analysis it is the most important. Thus, for our analysis TTM receives a negative score from a Cash perspective. At Ockham, we are fond of saying "Cash is King," and in this case the company is not generating any. If a company is not able to generate a profit then there is no reason to invest in them. Unless of course you believe in the story, and hope it will eventually lead to a profitable enterprise.

TTM Dividends

While it is not necessary to pay an attractive dividend or a dividend at all, to receive a positive rating from Ockham, we view dividends as an additionally helpful measure in determining the future potential of any company.

In TTM’s case, the estimated annual dividend is $0.10 resulting in a current dividend yield of 0.70%. Similar to our review of Sales and Cash Earnings per share, we evaluate dividend yields from TTM against the historic high and low levels over the past 8 years. The highest dividend yield from TTM over this period was 11.48% while the lowest dividend yield was 0.00% It is never a good sign for a company to pay significantly lower dividends, in this case 87.80% below the median yield. Although, dividends are a relatively small portion of our analysis framework, we still see this as a negative factor.
